Bank Melli Iran, like other Iranian banks abroad, is currently unable to provide services and its activities depend on reducing international pressure and lifting international sanctions against Iran.

In 2018, a meeting between Mohammad Reza Hosseinzadeh, CEO of Bank Melli and Chairman of the Coordination Council of State-Owned Banks of Iran with Hossein Aydin, CEO Agriculture Bank and the head of the Turkish Banks Union in Tehran, the parties made initial agreements to create a common bank card between the two National Banks of Iran and Turkish Agriculture.

Mohammad Reza Hosseinzadeh, CEO of Bank Melli and Chairman of the Coordination Council of State-Owned Banks of Iran, said in a meeting with Hossein Aydin, CEO of Zaraat Bank and Chairman of the Turkish Banks Association in Tehran: Bank cards are to be used between the two countries.

The task of the banks is to make business more smooth for businessmen and economic actors, and we are glad that the Agriculture Bank of Turkey has announced its readiness in this regard.

She stated that the first opening of documentary credit (LC) was made by Bank Melli using the monetary pact-currency swap agreement with Turkey: The welcome of Iranian and Turkish traders in this field has been very appropriate.

In addition, bank cards are to be used between the two countries. Every year, a large number of tourists from Iran and Turkey travel to the two countries, and the use of these cards can boost the tourism industry.

During the meeting, Hossein Aydin, CEO of Ziraat Bank and President of the Turkish Banks Association, said that relations between Turkey and Iran are now at a good level. “Using shared bank cards can help the two countries exchange currency and boost trade.”

The CEO of the Bank of Turkey Agriculture also stressed the bank’s full readiness to expand cooperation with the National Bank of Iran and agreed to form technical committees to follow up on matters in both banks.

Although the bank card has not yet been issued, with the end of Donald Trump’s US presidency, which has put maximum pressure on Iran, hopes for an opening in international sanctions and the resumption of bilateral banking relations have increased. There is a plan to implement this.
